Badminton and beer

Tony seemed to always be the wise one who knew so much about so many things and his advice was often sought. Often amused and bemused by my own lack of knowledge, he was always a gentleman and I never felt adversely judged, he was always glad to help. He was a keen observer of political events, so after we had finished batting a ball or shuttlecock around the court, sport sometimes continued through lively discussions in the pub but across a pint glass rather than a net. The inevitable varied cross section of views was energising, but the lovely thing was that they always ended in laughter. And Apart from that inevitable feeling of “what would Tony say about this? ‘‘ , it is Tony’s dry wit, wonderful smile and infectious laughter which are my enduring memories of him. Annie
